New protective covers
All models
Situation:
The universal set of protective covers for the front side panels (wings) was recommended
in Service Information bulletin 8 02 00 (589)
for maintenance and repair work in the
engine compartment.
This set has been extended and modified.
Additional new fibreglass protective covers have been developed, in particular for the
bodywork area.
Protective covers for maintenance and repair work
•
Universal front cover
A universally applicable front cover has been developed to supplement the universal
set of protective covers. This protects the painted front section of the vehicle.
The cover is secured to the vehicle in the middle by velcro tabs and at the sides by
hooks. A velcro fastener is sewn to the sides for a better connection of the front cover
to the side panel protective covers.
The side panel protective covers recommended in the above SI can also be used with
the new front cover.
•
Modified side panel protective covers
The side panel protective covers have been modified to guarantee optimum protection
of E65 vehicles and a connection to the universal front cover.
-
The upper cover tab has been extended to the front (improved protection for E65
vehicles).
-
A velcro fastener has been sewn into the sides to allow the new front cover to be
secured better.
-
An additional bead fastening has been sewn onto the upper cover tab (better
securing for E65 vehicles).
Protective covers for body repair work
•
Fibreglass protective covers
New fibreglass protective covers have been developed to ensure optimum protection
for vehicles during grinding and welding.
Components in the vehicle interior can be protected with the different protective
covers. They can also be hung over doors and flaps to protect larger areas.
These fibreglass covers are made of asbestos-free, laminated fibreglass materials and
can be used at temperatures up to 500
°
(700
°
for brief periods).
Suction caps are provided to allow the covers to be fitted to components without
scratching.
Wall bracket for protective covers
•
Wall bracket
For storing the protective covers close to the workplace. Our advice is to install a wall
bracket at several central points in the workshop (e.g. between two work bays).
