5 Series E34 518g (M43) TOUR
A visual inspection should be performed to establish this:
- E36/5 by dismantling the CNG tank side trim.
- E34/2 through the car jack flap in the CNG tank trim
If corrosion is detected, the affected parts must be replaced.
Inspection 2
At every Inspection 2, in addition to the above points, one to three of the following operations must be carried out
on CNG vehicles:
4.
Extended leak test
All high pressure lines and their screw connection points are checked with compressed air at a minimum gas
pressure of 75
%
. This is performed by spraying the screw connection points with leak tester spray (refer to BMW
Parts Service). The screw connection on the filler neck of the filler line is not checked.
5.
Extended corrosion test
To do this, first dismantle the CNG tank cover and conduct a visual inspection of the complete CNG gas tank, the
tank frame and all related screw connection points.
Note:
When customers deliver their vehicles, if they complain of a smell of gas, or if gas is detected while the vehicle is
in the workshop, all screw connection points must be thoroughly checked.
To do this, the corresponding trim and bleed hoses must be removed.
Documentation
All maintenance and repair work conducted on CNG vehicles must be fully documentd in the supplement to the
Owner's Manual. The TÜV (road test authorities) require a verifiable record of all maintenance and repair work
carried out on a vehicle.
It is required by law for all workshop documents on any CNG vehicle to be kept on file for more than 10 years.
Always ensure that the data can be called up when required.
