Unscrew cylinder head (M50 VANOS)

Caution!

If necessary, first rotate crankshaft enginewise through
approx. 30

°

from TDC position, then turn back once the

camshaft starts to rotate.

This prevents contact between valves and pistons.

Unscrew timing case cover to cylinder head bolts.

Unfasten cylinder head screws from outside inwards using special
tool 11 2 250 in several passes.

Lift off cylinder head.

Note:

Washers are sometimes punch-locked in standard production
cylinder heads to prevent them from getting lost.

When installing a new cylinder head, use new washers without
punch-locking.

Ensure that no washers are missing.
