Response time too long
E34, E36 with THM-R1 transmission
Complaint:
Response time when engaging a driving range after extended downtime, e.g. overnight, in
excess of 3 seconds.
Cause:
Leaking sealing rings on the turbine shaft and torque converter can run up to half empty.
Affected
vehicles:
520iA/M50, 525iA/M50 from 04/90 to 08/90
525iA/M50 US from 09/90 to 11/95
325iA/M50 US from 04/91 to 11/95
316iA, 318iA, 318isA from the start of series production to 11/95
325tdA and 525tdA from the start of series production to 11/95
Remedy:
Sealing rings on turbine shaft optimised (new design). In volume production since 12/95.
Procedure:
A seal and gasket kit has been compiled. If a problem is reported, this kit should be fitted in
accordance with
Repair Instructions 24 11 575
(refer to Enclosure).
Parts:
The seal and gasket kit can be obtained through the usual parts ordering channels.
