Change of air conditioning setting
E34 with IHKR2 or IHKRF3
Complaint:
The air conditioning switches on or off sporadically of its own accord after the car has been
restarted.
Cause:
The IHKR control unit and heater/blower are connected to the output of the blower relay
(K4). Since the blower comes to a gradual stop, the voltage at output 87 only falls away
slowly due to the induction voltage generated by the blower motor. In isolated cases this
may cause the above complaint to arise.
Affected
vehicles:
All E34 vehicles with IHKR2 or IHKRF3 as from 1/90.
Remedy:
In the event of this complaint arising, the power supply for the IHKR control unit on the
blower relay (K4) should be transferred from port 6 (output 87) to port 8/input 6/power
supply with ignition ON.
Procedure:
For IHKR 2 only:
Unfasten the connection for fuse F27 on the relay socket port 6 (terminal 87,
green/brown/yellow wire) and insert it together with the wire in port 8 (connection 86, green
wire) using a double connector.
It is not permissable to alter the connection for the F19 fuse on the relay socket port 6
(terminal 87, green/brown wire).
