Replacing camshaft (M51)

Removing cylinder head cover,

refer to 11 12 000

Removing vacuum pump,

refer to 11 66 000

Removing fan wheel with fan coupling,

refer to 11 52 020

Removal:

Removal of camshaft is described separately from installation.
Assembly sequence for removal and installation is different.

Note:

Rotate engine engine-wise until valves on cylinder 6 are in
TDC position.

(Cylinder 1: working stroke).

The cam setting is also visible from the oil fill aperture when
cylinder head cover is fitted.

Fit special tool 11 3 320 to camshaft.
