Spring tensioner 

All Series 

Situation: 

In the past, there have been numerous cases of incorrect use of the spring tensioner 31 3
120.

Examples of incorrect use:

-

Spring retainer lock screw not used.

-

Spring tensioner with spring in place spread too far with impact screwdriver, causing
the spring retainer to be loaded in the wrong direction resulting in preliminary damage
to the spring retainer.

Spring not correctly in place in the spring retainer.

With regard to the newly dimensioned spring forces and shapes, a new spring tensioner
has been developed which all but eliminates the possibility of incorrect use.

Enhanced safety due to the geometry of the spring retainer

Can also be used on Rover vehicles 

The accessories have been designed in such a way that the new spring tensioner can be
used for all operations which to date have been performed with the old spring tensioner
31 3 120. The new spring tensioner can be used just as well on Rover vehicles.
Additional spring tensioners are being prepared to cover all Rover vehicles.

Should the plastic coating of the spring retainer become damaged during use, a repair
coating can be ordered (31 3 366) as a remedy. If it is not possible to repair the protective
coat, protective inserts should be used, depending on the size of the spring retainer
(31 3 361 to 31 3 365).

Procedure:

The new spring retainer 31 3 340 and the spring retainers 31 3 350 will be supplied as
an offer tool to each contractual partner with a tools agreement. As it is being supplied in
large volume as an offer tool, it has been possible to keep the price of the spring tensioner
about 50% below the list price.

However, supplies cannot commence at once due to the cost and complexity of production.
