Battery trickle charger

All series

Situation: 

Electrical consumers also require power supply from the battery even when the vehicle is
not being driven. For this reason, the charge state of the battery must be ever more closely
monitored.

Until now, the trickle charger (Ladematic 61 2 400) has been used with a charge current
of 0.7 A to maintain an optimum battery charge state. Please refer to Service Information
bulletin 2 13 91 (454). However, due to the great increase in current consumption in
BMW vehicles over recent years, this charge current is no longer sufficient.

With immediate effect, a low-cost trickle charger is available with a program-controlled
electronic circuit for controlling the voltage and current. This switches the charge voltage off
at 13.8 V and back on again at 12.6 V. The charge current is no greater than 5.5 A.

This trickle charger is connected directly to the cigarette lighter socket. It can also be
connected to the charge terminal or to the battery using an adapter cable.

This trickle charger has been specially developed to ensure the battery is maintained in an
optimum charge state

- 

on vehicles in the showroom,

- 

on compound vehicles and store vehicles with the battery connected,

- 

on all vehicles whose battery is not disconnected from the vehicle's electrical system
and which are not moved for some time.

Note:

The charger is not suited for buffering the vehicle's electrical system e.g. during
programming or diagnosis.

The unit will automatically switch over to one of the mains voltages used worldwide. A
suitable mains cable for the country of delivery will automatically be supplied.
