Diagnosis assistance tool for overpressure/vacuum
All turbocharged engines
Situation:
Starting with the N54 engine, and on all future turbocharged engines, it is necessary to
create different pressures in the air intake system in order to localise component faults in
the charging system.
This allows the following components to be checked for correct function:
- Air intake system for leaks
- Wastegate valve for correct function
- Electropneumatic pressure converter.
A diagnosis assistance tool that is able to generate both overpressure and vacuum is
needed for this. Pressures are measured using the measuring technology of the BMW
Group diagnosis systems. User guidance and the testing schedule are controlled by the
test modules.
A complete examination of the air intake system and thus of the turbocharger is only
possible using the diagnosis assistance tool.
The tool will in future be used for testing the air intake system on all spark-ignition and
diesel engines.
Procedure:
The diagnosis assistance tool will be sent to every BMW dealer with a tools agreement
(campaign).
