Crowned centre balance (3-stage)

Situation:
For centering BMW wheels on stationary balancing machines, a cylindrical centre balance
is required with three different diameters. This centre balance has a positioning error of less
than 5 grams.
The contours of the surface have been given a crowned finish. In this way, the play (centre
balance-wheel) could be changed to a pressed fit.
The positioning error is thus reduced to less than 3 grams. The diameters 72.5 and 74 mm
had to be combined to form a single contour.
The advantage of this new centre balance is the low price combined with high precision
and minimal upgrading costs. In practice, this new ring will achieve the same degree of
precision as the expensive, upgrading-intensive centre balance DUO-Expert.
Procedure:
The cylindrical centre balance is no longer required. The crowned centre balance will form
part of the future scope of delivery of stationary balancing machines and is also available
individually for all standard shaft diameters. The crowned centre balance manufactured by
Hofmann is recommended for Hofmann balancing flanges. Store tools are tools which are
only supplied to order.
