Replacing Front Left Or Right Spring Strut for BMW 5 Series E39 520i (M52TU)
Warning!
Locking pins (2) must be felt and heard snapping into place.
Check seating of spring retainers.
Lay the lower coil of the coil spring and the upper spring plate
between the spring holder.
Warning!
Coils must rest completely in recess.
Do not compress coils to full extent.
Do not tighten or untighten special tool 31 3 341 with an impact
screwdriver.
Only compress coil spring until stress on piston rod is relieved.
Only release the nut if the coil is completely inserted in the spring
holder recess.
Brace with wrench (open ring / hexagon socket) and release nut
with special tool 31 2 210.
Remove spring strut.
Important!
Screw connection of support bearing to piston rod must not
be released with impact screwdriver!
