On-board monitor stays dark
E38, E39 with option 602 or 609 - only in conj. with option 818
Complaint:
The screen of the on-board monitor does not light up after terminal R has been switched
on.
Cause:
In vehicles fitted with options 602/609/818 (on-board monitor/navigation system/main
battery switch), the on-board monitor is deactivated at the end of the production line by
pulling one of the fuses named below.
This measure prevents the on-board monitor from operating while being transported to the
dealership from which it is to be delivered, thus preventing the battery from being
discharged unnecessarily.
The following fuses are pulled:
-
in E39 with production date up to week 31: fuse no. 64
in E39 with production date as of week 32: fuse no. 56
-
in E38: fuse no. 69
The fuse pulled is included in the set of small accessories included with the vehicle.
Note:
Until now, the blue 18-pin connector of the Video Module has been unplugged.
- see SI 65 01 95 (895)
This blue connector is somewhat difficult to access in the E39. To
standardize procedures, we will from now on pull the above-mentioned fuses in all
models fitted with the special options on-board monitor/navigation system and main
battery switch.
With immediate effect, Service Information bulletin 65 01 95 (895) is no longer valid.
Affected
vehicles:
E38, E39 with on-board monitor (option 602) or navigation system (option 609) - only in
conjunction with main battery switch (option 818).
Procedure:
The fuse enclosed in the set of small accessories must be plugged back into the fuse block
at the rear right of the luggage compartment.
