5 Series E39 525td (M51) SAL
Unfasten hose clip (1) on exhaust turbocharger and remove inlet
hose leading to mass air flow sensor.
Lift mass air flow sensor slightly with lower section of air filter
housing to enable the hose clip (1) to be unfastened.
Remove lower section of air filter housing together with mass air
flow sensor.
Pry out spring clips on left and right sides and remove heat shield
(1).
Unfasten screws (2).
Tightening torque,
refer to Technical Data 13 62 7AZ
Installation:
Check sealing ring (1) on mass air flow sensor for damage. If
damaged, replace sealing ring. For ease of assembly, coat
sealing ring with acid-free grease.
Read error memory on DDE control unit, check faults in
memory, rectify faults then clear the error memory.
