Incorrect graphical Check Control display
E39 touring RHD
Situation:
In a number of the above vehicles, the cables of the rear door contact switches have been
connected to the general module (GM) the wrong way round (i.e. left and right swapped
over).
Effect:
When the rear right door is open, the graphical Check Control display in the instrument
cluster indicates the rear left door and vice versa.
Affected
vehicles:
E39 touring RHD with basic instrument cluster and basic on-board computer (option 550)
Manufacturing period: see list of vehicle identification numbers (March 1997)
Procedure:
1.
Carry out functional check:
Turn on ignition (term. 15) and open a rear door. If the graphical display indicates the
correct door is "open", the vehicle does not have this fault.
If the other door is indicated, continue with Point 2.
2.
Turn off ignition (term. 15).
3.
Disconnect only white 26-pin connector (X332) from GM.
4.
Swap over cables of pin 6 and pin 7.
5.
Carry out functional check.
6.
Refit any parts which have been removed.
