Complaint:
Poor shifting, especially the 3-2 coasting or load downshift and the 5-4 load downshift.
Cause:
Tuning.
Affected
vehicles:
540iA, 740iA and 730iA with data status 0506
Manufacturing period: September 1998 to April 1999
Remedy:
Transmission tuning status modified.
New data status 0910 standard since May 1999.
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, read out the transmission control unit
fault memory and identify the data status.
If no fault is stored and data status 0506 is identified, program the transmission control unit
to data status 0910 using either the MoDiC
or the DIS tester.
Data status 0910 has been available to the BMW dealer organisation since DIS-CD 19.

Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms as follows:
