BMW wheel alignment system, KDS New Generation

Situation: 

BMW Workshop Equipment has been involved in the development of an innovative wheel
alignment system. In an intensive development partnership with Robert Bosch GmbH, the
BMW KDS New Generation wheel alignment system has been developed to production
standard.

The BMW KDS New Generation is the first service wheel alignment system to record the
position of the wheels without contact and at the same time measure the vehicle ride height
in real time. The key difference to conventional wheel alignment systems is a considerably
better repeat precision with this system. This is assisted, for example, by the lack of quick-
release wheel clamps, which are subject to wear.

Typically for BMW, the unit has all the familiar measuring routines for load-free wheel
alignment. For special cases and for competition vehicles, wheel alignment can also be
performed with the vehicle laden.
