The TCU (Telematic Control Unit) is equipped with a bluetooth interface that is connected to a bluetooth antenna.
The TCU and the bluetooth handset communicate with each other via their bluetooth interfaces and bluetooth
antennas.
To communicate with each other, the TCU and the bluetooth handset must be paired once.
The pairing of the bluetooth handset to the TCU and the communications between the bluetooth handset and the

If option 638 "Car phone Professional" in installed in the
basic variant of the E60, then only the telephone
functions can be used.
Option 638 "Car phone Professional" is only available in European version vehicles.
With option 638 "Car phone Professional", it is possible to make a phone call in hands-free mode while you are
driving.
The radio connection between the TCU (Telematic Control Unit) and the bluetooth handset is automatically set up by
the TCU within the bluetooth reception area. Because the radio connection is set up automatically, there is no need

Telematic Control Unit (TCU)
The TCU (Telematic Control Unit) is the transceiver for the fixed-installation Professional telephone. The TCU is
configured for GSM dual band and for frequencies 900/1800 MHz. The TCU is connected to the MOST bus
and thus to the vehicle's overall bus system.

Using the telephone with the handset is against the law in many countries.
