Changing / topping up / checking gear oil in
manual transmission

Important!

It is essential to adhere to the exact filling capacities specified.

Fill transmission at room temperature only (approx. 20 

°

-30 

°

C)!

Gear oil:

refer to BMW Service Operating Fluids.

Failure to comply with this instruction will result in serious
damage to the transmission!

Recycling:

Catch and dispose of gear oil with suitable equipment.

Observe country-specific waste-disposal regulations.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Unscrew and remove splash guard.

Draining gear oil:

Open oil drain plug (1) and drain gear oil.

Activate transmission oil pump using DIS Tester ("Control unit

functions-Component activation") for approx. 30 seconds.
Pump activation can be performed several times in
succession so that the specified time is achieved!

Here the residual oil is pumped out of the pump circuit of the
gear oil cooler into the transmission housing and drains off.

Clean oil drain plug (1) and screw in.

Tightening torque 23 00 4AZ
