Tailgate repairs (abrasion points)

E61

Situation: 

On the tailgate, abrasion points may form in the area of the left and right outer trims (1) (see
illustration).

The cause is the fit of the trims, which may rub against the tailgate in the event of
unfavourable tolerance combinations.

Affected vehicles:

E61 
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until June 2007

Action:

Before constructive measures are introduced in series production to prevent the abrasion,
existing damage must be eliminated in case of customer complaint by partial painting. 

In addition, the trims fitted on the left and right-hand sides of the vehicle must be modified
so that they no longer cause damage after they have been reinstalled.

Important:

With immediate effect it is no longer permissible to replace the tailgate in such
cases!

Procedure:

Remove the trims on the outer left and right from the tailgate and carry out the following
additional dismantling operations above the centre separation edge:

- 

63 21 203 Both rear lights

- 

51 31 245 Seal for rear window

- 

51 14 510 BMW logo at rear

- 

51 14 610 Model designation at rear
