Secure the red lead of the cable set to the B+ terminal (terminal 30).
Note:
In order to prevent the relay carrier from being damaged when unscrewing the
hexagon nut, unclip the B+ terminal first.

Remove the fuel-pump relay socket.

Unpin the two green/violet leads (terminal 87) from the fuel-pump relay socket and
detach the lug.

Check which lead runs
- to the distribution board/electric fuel pump and
- to the oxygen-sensor heater.
To do this:
Connect the negative battery terminal. Turn on the ignition.
Connect the leads one after the other to the B+ terminal. When you connect the lead
that runs to the distribution board/electric fuel pump, you will hear fuel flowing through
the fuel-pressure regulator.
Turn off the ignition. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Reconnect the green/violet lead (to the distribution board/electric fuel pump) to the
fuel-pump relay socket.
Note:
The lug required for this purpose is not contained in the parts set.

Fit a cable connector to the other green/violet lead (to the oxygen-sensor heater) and
push the connector housing over it. The connector housing and cable connector are
attached to the red/white lead in the parts set with insulating tape. Connect the
green/violet and red/white leads together.

Fit the fuel-pump relay socket.

Connect the "oxygen-sensor-heater control unit" in the relay socket of the cable set.

Refit the ABS control unit.

Secure the brown earth lead to the threaded pin (terminal 31) using either an M6 or
M8 lug.

Run the green/white and yellow/black leads to the diagnosis plug.
To do this:
Remove the coolant expansion tank.
Remove the cable ties from the cable channel.
Run the leads through the cable channel and fit new cable ties.

Connect the green/white lead in chamber number 16 of the diagnosis plug (terminal
15).
Connect the yellow/black lead in chamber number 11 of the diagnosis plug (terminal
50).
See Enclosure 2 for procedures to be followed.

Reconnect the negative terminal to the vehicle battery.

Read out the DME fault memory.
This Service solution ensures that heating of the oxygen sensor is delayed by 30 seconds
irrespective of the engine temperature.
At the same time, there is no oxygen-sensor control during these 30 seconds.
This delay (sensor heating/sensor voltage) can be demonstrated using the simulator for
Bosch oxygen sensors (BMW special tool number 11 7 450).
