Venting cooling system and checking for
water leaks (M67)

Warning!

Danger of scalding!

Only open sealing cap when engine has cooled down.

Drain off and top up coolant,

refer to 17 00 005.

Check cooling system for leaks,

refer to 17 00 009.

Note:

To ensure that the cooling system is properly vented, it is
absolutely essential to adhere to the following steps:

1)

Open vent plug on expansion tank and slowly fill tank up
to top edge. 

2)

Open vent plugs on 

cylinder heads (right and left). If necessary, top up
coolant up to top edge of expansion tank and close vent
plugs again when bubble-free coolant emerges.

3)

Start engine and run at idle speed. Set heating to maximum

and top up coolant up to top edge of expansion tank.

4)

When bubble-free coolant emerges at vent plug of expansion

tank, close plug and switch off engine.

5)

Turn on independent heating and run for approx. 3 minutes.

Then start engine and continue to run at idle speed.

6)

Then screw on expansion tank cap and switch off engine.

7)

Start engine again and rev several times to approx. 2000 to

3000 rpm.
