Oil-pressure warning lamp comes on
E38 M60, M62, M73
Situation:
Due to a production fault affecting wiring harnesses, engine wiring harnesses have been
manufactured whose connector housing for the oil-pressure switch mounted on the engine
may suffer from leaks.
Effect:
Water can get into the cable connector and consequently into the oil-pressure switch,
causing corrosion of the contact pins.
This results in the engine-oil-pressure warning lamp in the display coming on even though
the oil pressure is OK.
Vehicles affected:
E38 with M60, M62 and M73
Manufacturing period: from start of series production up to December 1995
Action:
Optimization of the manufacturing process in wiring harness production since January
1996.
If you receive a customer complaint, replace the oil-pressure switch and cable connector.
Note:
This invalidates SI 12 05 95 (930) for the E38, which instructed you to replace only
the oil-pressure switch.
Procedure:
1.
Replace the engine-oil-pressure switch as described in Repair Instructions 12 61 280.
