Removing and installing or replacing (lower)
steering spindle
Caution!
The tapered spline on the steering spindle is paired. Before
unfastening the steering spindle, mark the position of both
parts to each other.
Remove rear splash guard.
If necessary, remove heat-protection shield from axle support.
Remove lower trim from instrument panel.
Remove steering wheel,
refer to 32 33 000.
Remove clamping bolt.
Press down on steering spindle.
Installation:
Clamping screw lies in locating groove in upper steering
spindle.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 32 31 1AZ.
Remove clamping bolt.
Slide steering spindle off steering gear. Disconnect and remove
steering spindle.
Installation:
Ensure that rubber grommet is correctly located in end wall.
Clamping screw lies in the locking groove of the steering unit.
Replace self-locking nut.
Tightening Torque,
refer to Technical Data 32 31 1AZ.
