The loudspeakers will play the audio source selected in the front on the Control Display (e.g. radio). The
headphones in the rear will play the audio source selected on the rear display (e.g. CD). This means that it
is possible to use 2 different audio sources at the same time.
Exception:
It is not possible to play a DVD on the rear display and at the same time listen to an audio CD in the DVD
changer. The DVD changer is only able to play one medium at a time.
Rear area deactivation
The rear area deactivation can be selected in the front on the Control Display (CD): "Settings" menu, menu item
"Rear"
This prevents changes being made, e.g. to the audio source, from the rear area.
It is still possible to change source from the front.
The rear area deactivation can be set to include various functions:

Deactivated
The rear display is deactivated.

Fully activated
All functions are available.

Partially activated
Functions not used on the Control Display in the front are activated.

Menus activated
The functions of certain menus can be activated individually:

•
BMW ASSIST

Entertainment
Split screen display on Control Display
A split screen display on the Control Display is possible if the rear entertainment system is not installed.
Television and navigation can be displayed on the Control Display at the same time. The video module sends
the television data to the navigation computer. Data for television and navigation are mixed. The navigation
computer then sends the data to the Control Display via the RGB wire. The Control Display separates the data
again for the split screen display.
This is not possible on vehicle with the rear entertainment system. The navigation data are sent to the video
module via a RGB wire. The drive video module is not able to mix these data. The signals from the navigation
computer or DVD changer are duplicated and sent to the front and rear. This means that only one function can
be shown for each display.
Brightness control
A photocell in the rear display measures the surrounding brightness. The surrounding brightness is compared
with the set brightness values. The display is adjusted to the surrounding brightness by darkening or brightening
the image. This ensures that the display can always be read easily.
Operation
The following menus are currently activated for operation via the rear display:
