7 Series E65 740d (M67) SAL
When working on the crankshaft drive or pistons, it is necessary to
recalculate the gasket thickness.
Measuring the piston clearance:
Place dial gauge with measuring fixture, special tool 0 2 530, on
cleaned cylinder head sealing face and set to zero under
pretension.
Clean piston at measuring points (1 and 2).
Position dial gauge at measuring point (1) on piston.
Determine highest point of piston by rotating crankshaft.
Check piston protrusion on all 4 pistons.
The highest piston protrusion at the measuring points (1 and 2)
of all 4 pistons determines the thickness of the cylinder head
gasket.
Piston protrusion 0.92 ... 1.03 mm:
-
Install 2-hole cylinder head gasket.
Piston protrusion over 1.03 mm:
-
Install 3-hole cylinder head gasket.
Caution!
Danger of cracking and distorted tightening values:
Tapped holes in crankcase must be free of dirt and oil.
