Tyre pressure control (RDC) inoperable

E65, E66 with RDC (option 265) and radio frequency 315 MHz (option 876)

Complaint:

The RDC is sporadically inoperable and the check control message is displayed: "Tyre
checks inactive".

Cause:

The 315 MHz radio frequency of the RDC wheel electronics in the wheels can be
disrupted by an interference frequency of the control display that also has a frequency of
315 MHz. 

Affected
vehicles:

E65, E66 with RDC (option 265) and radio frequency 315 MHz (option 876) 
Manufacturing period: February 2002 to March 2002

Procedure:

In the case of a customer complaint convert the vehicle to use radio frequency 433 MHz by
replacing the RDC wheel electronics, the RDC control unit and the RDC receiving aerials.
In addition the option 876 must be removed from the vehicle order.

For conversion of the vehicle proceed as follows:

1.

Replace the RDC wheel electronics with the screw-fitting valves (including the spare
wheel). 
See Repair Instructions "Removal and installation/replacement of the RDC wheel
electronics", RA 36 11 533.

2.

Replace the RDC control unit.
See Repair Instructions "Removal and installation/replacement of RDC control units", 
RA 36 11 520.

3.

Replace the RDC receiving aerials.
Refer to Repair Instructions "Removal and installation/replacement of front receiving
aerial for RDC", RA 36 11 522

and Repair Instructions "Removal and installation/replacement of rear receiving aerial
for RDC", RA 36 11 527.

4.

Modify the vehicle order to correspond with the changed equipment:

a)

For modification of the vehicle order, contact the responsible subsidiary or the
appropriate regional office. Quote the relevant vehicle identification number and
the note: "Removal of the option 876" modification of the vehicle order will be
carried out there.

b)

The modified vehicle order will be sent by E-mail as a file with the filename
"xmldb.xml". Save this file with the given filename in the root directory of a
formatted DOS diskette.

5.

Carry out the following procedure on the diagnostic system:

a)

Select the button: "Encoding/Program".

b)

Select the button: "CIP" and ">".

c)

The display shows: "The vehicle order (FA) is being determined".

d)

The display shows: "Program SELECTION: Load software, Car & Key Memory
(CKM)".

e)

Select the button: "Load software".

f)

The display shows: "Have control units been replaced on this vehicle? Answer
