Switchover valve for independent heating
E53 / M57
Complaint:
When operating the auxiliary heating at very cold temperatures the passenger compartment
is not sufficiently heated, and the windshield is not completely defrosted.
Cause:
In auxiliary heating mode, the entire cooling system of the vehicle, including the engine
cooling system, is heated up. The power of the auxiliary heater is not sufficient for this
purpose.
Affected
vehicles:
E53 with automatic air conditioner (option 534) and auxiliary heater (option 536)
from start of series production to 09/2003
Procedure:
In the future, a switchover valve can be retrofitted in the event of customer complaints. This
prevents warm water from entering the engine cooling system when the auxiliary heater is
operated.
Please refer to Enclosure 1 for a detailed description of the installation process and how to
lay the cables.
