Battery master switch (option 818)
E53, E83
Situation:
The battery master switch is a switch which is not permanently installed and which
contributes significantly to the retention of the quality of the vehicle battery up to delivery to
the customer.
The switch serves as a simple way to interrupt the off-load current for electronic
components on vehicles which are not in use (being transported, in storage). This
increases the obligatory interval between battery recharging from 6 to 12 weeks (cost
saving).
Vehicles that will have a long transport route or those for which longer storage times are
envisaged (not in customer's hands), are equipped with this factory-fitted battery master
switch.
Note:
The battery master switch is not fitted for all markets.
Affected
vehicles:
E53, E83
Procedure:
Switch the battery master switch off again whenever the vehicle has been moved (e.g.
manoeuvred in the warehouse).
Important:
The battery circuit must always be open on compound vehicles. This is a
precondition for the lengthened
12-week recharging interval.
Remove the battery master switch before vehicle delivery to the customer.
Unless regional collection has been organised, the battery master switch is to be returned
to the following address at the expense of the dealership:
