Passenger-side exterior mirror remains in tilted position
E53/X5
Complaint:
The exterior mirror on the passenger side does not return to its original position from the
tilted position (automatic parking function) after reversing and then reverting to forward
drive.
Cause:
Software error in switch clusters of driver's and front-passenger doors with software "SW
03".
Affected vehicles:
E53 with option 459 (electrical seat adjustment with memory for driver's side)
Manufacturing period: start of series production until May 2002
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, replace the switch clusters with software 03 in the two front
doors with switch clusters with software 04 or later. The software numbers can be found on
the label of the respective switch cluster. Remove the two switch clusters to check the
software status.
Please refer to repair instructions 61 31 115 "Replacing rocker switch for side-window
operation (door switch cluster)".
