Rattling noises from the area of the rear axle

Complaint:
Rattling noises from the area of the rear axle
Cause:
Lower spring support for the rear coil springs comes loose from mounting. This means that
the coil spring is no longer guided and causes rattling noises.
Affected vehicles:
E53 manufacturing period from 1 March 2000 until 31 January 2001.
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint:
Replace both rear coil springs with lower spring support.
Procedure:
Replace both rear coil springs with lower spring support as described in Repair Instructions
33 53 000 .
Note:
Correct any damage to the underbody protection (in the area of the coil springs) in
accordance with BMW guidelines.
