PDC signal although no obstacle present
E53 US with park distance control (option 508)
Complaint:
If reverse gear is engaged or the PDC switch pressed, the park distance control (PDC)
intermittently indicates an obstacle, even though no such obstacle is to be found within the
range of the system.
Cause:
The PDC recognises the console of the front US license plate as an obstacle.

E53 US with park distance control (option 508)
Manufacturing period: start of series production until November 2001
Procedure:
In case of customer complaint, make sure that any other problem other than the PDC
system can be ruled out (e.g. defective sensor, incorrectly installed or dirty sensor,
attachments or additional parts installed within the range of the PDC system).
If troubleshooting leads to the conclusion that the front license plate console is recognised
as an obstacle, modify the console. Proceed as follows for this purpose:
1.
Remove the front license plate and console.
2.
Heat the area around both side flaps (2) with a hot air blower (1).
