Increase of power assist for brakes
E60 / M54E61 / M54E83 / M54
Complaint:
The customer complains of insufficient power assist for brakes shortly after engine starting
and while driving at very low speeds. The claim primarily occurs in the following conditions:
•
At elevations above 1600 m after cold start or when engine idling
•
At elevations below 1600 m after engine start (cold or warm), engine idling, steering
at full lock and air conditioning system switched on
Cause:
When idling, there is insufficient low air pressure when multiple energy consumers are
activated.
Affected vehicles:
Only automatic transmission vehicles of the following series:
E60 and E61
E60 with M54/B22 engine
Production period: from start of series production until November 2005
E60, E61 with M54/B25 engine
Production period: from the start of series production until June 2005
E60 with M54/B30 engine
Production period: from start of series production until November 2005
E83
E83 with M54/B25 engine
Production period: from start of series production until August 2006
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint, an Electric Vacuum Pump (ELUP) retrofit kit is to be
installed.
Procedure:
Install retrofit kit in E60, E61 as per Enclosure 1.
Install retrofit kit in E83 as per Enclosure 2.

Reimbursement:
Material and labour costs incurred can be claimed through the usual warranty channels
subject to current warranty terms.
Only one of the above job numbers may be submitted for reimbursement.
