Side windows close poorly / wind noises
E85
Complaint:
The side window unexpectedly changes its set position without outside interference and
drops down. The side window will then no longer close properly. Wind and rattling noises
then occur and water may ingress.
Cause:
The adjustment plates for the window adjustment on the power windows are loose. The
gearing of the adjustment plates is positioned "tooth to tooth". After the adjustment plates
have set, the clamping bolt has become loose. This causes the side window to move down
slightly, losing its installation position.

E85
Manufacturing period: Start of series production until March 2004
Remedy:
In case of customer complaint, a plastic stop must be installed in the door window fixture to
prevent the side window from slipping. In addition, the clamping bolt is tightened with
increased torque.
Procedure:
Remove the outside front door handle
as described in Repair Instructions
51 21 170 .
Loosen clamping bolt (1).
Slide outer clamping plate (1) up to the
stop.
