Removing and installing/replacing starter
motor (S54)

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Disconnect battery negative lead from battery.

Observe instructions for disconnecting and connecting battery.

Remove reinforcement plate on front axle support.

Note:

For a better overview, this work step is shown from above and
without the intake air manifold. Do not remove intake air manifold
and carry out work from below.

Release nuts.

Installation:

Tightening torque, 12 41 4AZ.

Disconnect battery positive leads from starter motor.

Disconnect control line from starter motor.

Note:

For a better overview, the illustrations of other BMW cars are used
for the following work steps.

Release both starter motor mounting bolts on transmission:

Release starter motor mounting bolts (1) from transmission
output end with a long extension and universal joints.

Installation:

Tightening torque, 12 41 1AZ .
