Whenever a new valve is installed or after grinding valves, it is necessary to measure the valve stem height with the special tool as shown in Fig. 20.
There should be at least .015 inch clearance between the gauge and end of valve stem. If clearance is less than .015 inch, remove valve and grind end of
valve stem as required. Check valve rotator height, Fig. 21. If valve stem end is less than .005 inch above rotator, the valve is too short and a new valve
must be installed.
