SUBJECT:
MAINTENANCE REMINDER FLAG RESET
MODELS AFFECTED:
VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SPEEDOMETER EMISSION SERVICE FLAG
Beginning in 1978, Buick began using an emission reminder flag incorporated within the speedometer on certain models, to alert the customer that an
emission device on their vehicle was due for service or replacement. Depending on the speedometer design used for different models, one of two
resetting procedures must be used. The emission flag resetting procedures are detailed in the following illustrations.
To avoid early deployment of the flag (and to avoid causing a "comeback") it is important to feel 3 clicks or detents of the flag wheel and to insure that
the alignment mark is in the center of the window after resetting is complete, per #3 in both illustrations.
