SUBJECT:
INTERMITTENT A/C OPERATION OR BLOWN NUMBER 7 FUSE
MODELS AFFECTED: 1989 ELECTRAS AND LESABRES
This bulletin supersedes Buick bulletin 89-1-1, dated 01/01/88.
This bulletin has been revised to correct the clamping diode information in the last sentence of the bulletin.
"Pull to seat" connectors are now used at the A/C compressor clutch location on 1989 Electra and LeSabre models. Because of this change, the
compressor clutch diode has been relocated about 14 inches away and into the wire harness. Under certain conditions, the diode legs can short to the
harness and cause a condition of intermittent A/C operation or a blown A/C fuse in the number 7 position of the fuse panel.
Diagnosis of this condition will require the removal of the generator to access the diode in its new location. The diode should be inspected after removal
of the heat shrink material protecting it. Generally, a properly operating diode can be reinsulated and returned to the harness conduit to repair this
intermittent condition. Inoperative diodes should be replaced using a 1 amp, 400 volt common clamping diode.
