Fig. 5 Service Ball Joint Attachment

1. Raise and support vehicle and place jackstands under cradle.  Vehicle weight should not be placed on control arms.
3. Remove wheel assembly.
4. Install drive axle boot protectors.
5. Remove cotter key from ball joint nut and, using tool J-34505, separate ball joint from steering knuckle, Fig. 4.
5. Drill out ball joint retaining rivets.
6. Remove stabilizer bar bushing to control arm bolt.
7. Pull control arm downward and remove ball joint from steering knuckle and control arm.
8. Reverse procedure to install. Tighten new ball joint attaching nuts to specifications, Fig. 5.
