Brake Fluid Pump: Service and Repair
1.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
2.
Depressurize hydraulic accumulator by depressing brake pedal a minimum of 25 times. A noticeable change in pedal resistance will be felt
when accumulator is depressurized. Failure to depressurize accumulator may result in personal injury and/or damage to vehicle and
painted surfaces.
3.
Disconnect electrical connectors from pressure switch and pump motor.
4.
Pinch return hose to prevent fluid loss, then remove hydraulic accumulator.
5.
Disconnect pressure hose from pump.
6.
Remove pressure hose assembly and O-rings.
7.
Remove wire clip which retains hose at pump body, then pull return hose fitting from pump body.
8.
Remove pump mounting bolt, sleeve and insulator.
9.
Remove pump and motor assembly from vehicle, by sliding pump from locating pin.
10.
Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Torque pressure pipe assembly-to-pump fittings to 9 ft. lbs.
b. Torque accumulator attaching bolts to 30 ft. lbs.
c. Turn ignition switch On. Allow system to pressurize. BRAKE lamp should go out within 30 seconds and pump motor should turn off within 40
seconds.
