Exhaust Manifold: Service and Repair
LEFT SIDE (FRONT)
3.8L/V6-231 VIN C & L
1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING, then relieve fuel pressure as
outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove two crossover pipe to manifold attaching bolts.
3.
Disconnect spark plug wires at spark plugs.
4.
Remove manifold attaching bolts.
5.
Remove oil dipstick tube and dipstick.
6.
Remove manifold.
7.
Reverse procedure to install.
8.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
3.8L/V6-231 VIN 1
1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2.
Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3.
Disconnect battery ground cable.
4.
Remove two flange bolts.
5.
Remove manifold to bracket attaching nut.
6.
Remove manifold to engine studs, then remove manifold.
7.
Reverse procedure to install.
8.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
RIGHT SIDE (REAR)
The following procedure covers 1989-92 models.
1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
2.
Relieve fuel pressure as outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
3.
Disconnect battery ground cable, then disconnect spark plug wires from spark plugs and position aside.
4.
Remove throttle cable bracket, then the crossover pipe heat shield.
5.
Remove transaxle dipstick and dipstick tube.
6.
Disconnect oxygen sensor lead, then remove EGR pipe.
7.
Remove two exhaust pipe to manifold attaching bolts.
8.
Remove plastic vacuum tank mounted on cowl, then raise and support vehicle.
9.
Remove catalytic converter heat shield and pipe hanger.
10.
Remove front exhaust pipe to manifold attaching nuts, then the pipe from manifold.
11.
Lower vehicle, then remove engine lift bracket.
12.
Remove exhaust manifold attaching nuts, then the manifold.
13.
Reverse procedure to install.
14.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
