WINDNOISE, DOOR AND DOOR GLASS AREAS

MODELS AFFECTED: 1988 REGALS

Customer comments regarding windnoise on 1988 Regals may be addressed by using the procedures on the individual items listed in this bulletin.

Proper diagnosis can be made with a variety of tools and methods including stethoscopes, dust guns, sonic instruments, visual inspections, etc. It is
important to remember that windnoise can best be described as air leaking from the inside of the vehicle outward while traveling at highway speeds.
Turbulence or windrush is best described as air passing over and around body openings and moldings. Prior to any repairs, the door auxiliary
weatherstrips and door opening weatherstrips should be visually inspected for proper gaps, fits, weatherstrip contact and sealing. The vehicle should also
be road tested to determine the location and degree of windnoise/turbulence on the vehicle.

A primary area of windnoise may be at the rear upper corner of the door glass area and/or the front upper corner of the door glass next to the mirror and
filler. Either area may be due to an unsealed run channel and/or run channel retainer to the door frame.

Parts are expected to be available on August 1, 1988. Until then, normal part orders will not be accepted by GMSPO. Only verifiable emergency VIP
orders will be accepted. SPO will make every effort to obtain parts. All parts will be placed on 400 control to waive VIP surcharges. However, the part
will be shipped premium transportation at dealer's expense. All other order types will be cancelled as incorrectly ordered while the 400 control is in
place.
The recommended repair is to replace the existing retainer seal and to replace the run channel with a new part which has larger seal pads at the corner
locations.

Remove:

1.

Door trim panel, inner belt seal strip and retainer.

2.

Mirror, filler and control cable (if equipped).

3.

Outside door handle and cover from door frame.

4.

Run channel from door by disengaging door glass.

5.

Run channel retainer from door frame.
