Oil Pan: Service and Repair
1.
Disable airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING, then relieve fuel pressure as
outlined under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELIEF.
2.
Disconnect battery ground cable and raise and support vehicle.
3.
Drain oil pan and remove flexplate cover, then remove starter and oil filter as necessary.
4.
Remove oil pan bolts, oil pan and gasket, as equipped. Production engines with 14 bolt oil pan are produced using RTV sealer to seal pan,
while models with 20 bolt pan use a formed rubber gasket. If oil pan must be removed for service, use replacement composition gasket for
models with 14 bolt pan and new formed rubber gasket for models with 20 bolt pan.
5.
Position replacement gasket on pan, insert 2 bolts to maintain position, then install pan and gasket assembly.
6.
Install remaining bolts, then evenly torque bolts to specifications. Do not over tighten oil pan retaining bolts as pan may be damaged,
resulting in oil leaks.
7.
Reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
8.
Rearm airbag system as described under MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES/AIRBAG SYSTEM DISARMING.
