Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid: Description and Operation
Transmission converter clutch operation is controlled by a solenoid operated valve within the transmission or transaxle. Current flow through the
solenoid is controlled by the ECM and a separate TCC controller. The ECM provides battery voltage to the solenoid when the VSS signal is above a
calibrated speed, throttle opening is above calibrated level and the top gear switch is open (top gear engaged). The solenoid ground path is completed
through the TCC controller which delays engagement momentarily on transmission upshift or downshift in order to improve driveability.
