Theft Deterrent Re-Learn
The following are theft deterrent auto learn procedures. There are three different ways that theft deterrent re-learn may be accomplished:
1. Theft deterrent re-learn using the Tech 2 scan tool and Techline terminal (quickest procedure).
2. Theft deterrent re-learn using the T-50 or T-60 (second quickest procedure).
3. Theft deterrent auto-learn - no tools needed (longest procedure).
Theft Deterrent Re-Learn Using the Tech 2 Scan Tool and Techline Terminal
1. Connect the Tech 2 to the Data Link Connector (DLC) on the vehicle.
2. At the Tech 2 scan tool main menu, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
3. Enter the requested vehicle information, then select REQUEST INFO.
4. Disconnect the Tech 2 scan tool from the vehicle.
5. Connect the Tech 2 scan tool to the Techline terminal.
6. Select SERVICE PROGRAMMING SYSTEM (SPS).
7. Select TERMINAL TP TECH 2 PROGRAMMING.
8. Select DONE and follow instructions on the Techline terminal to Handheld Communications Setup screen.
9. Select THEFT MODULE RE-LEARN.
10. At the summary screen, select PROGRAM. The terminal will then download information to the Tech 2 scan tool.
11. Disconnect the Tech 2 scan tool from the Techline terminal.
12. Connect the Tech 2 scan tool to the DLC on the vehicle.
13. At the Tech 2 scan tool main menu, select SERVICE PROGRAMMING.
14. Answer the question prompted by the Tech 2 scan tool, then select RE-LEARN.
13. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) and the Body Control Module (BCM) will be prepared for re-learn.
16. A security timer will be on for approximately 10 minutes. During the 10 minute wait period, the Tech 2 scan tool must remain connected to
the vehicle.
17. When the PCM and BCM are prepared to re-learn, turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
18. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
19. The vehicle should now start when the ignition key is rotated to the START position.
20. Disconnect the Tech 2 scan tool from the DLC.
Theft Deterrent Re-Learn Using the T-50 or T-60
1. Enter the T50/T-60 Service Programming System (SPS).
2. Select TERMINAL TO VEHICLE PROGRAMMING.
3. Select DONE and follow the instructions on the VEHICLE SETUP screen.
4. Select THEFT MODULE RELEARN.
5. Follow the instructions on the remaining screens:
A. The PCM and BCM will be prepared for re-learn.
B. A security timer will be on for approximately 10 minutes. During the 10 minute wait period, the T-50/T-60 terminal must remain
connected to the vehicle.
C. When the PCM and BCM are prepared to re-learn, turn the ignition OFF, then ON. The vehicle should now start.
Theft Deterrent Auto-Learn (Basic Scan Tool)
The following part of this procedure will require the ignition switch to be turned to the RUN position and left in the RUN position for
approximately 30 minutes. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle's battery and turn the charger on a low charge rate during the rest of this
procedure.
1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Raise the engine compartment hood.
3. Connect a battery charger to the vehicle's battery.
4. Turn the charger on a low charge rate. Refer to Battery.
5. Turn and leave the ignition switch in the RUN position for the rest of this procedure.
6. The SECURITY will come on and stay on for approximately 10 minutes, then the SECURITY will turn off. When the SECURITY turns off,
turn the ignition switch to the OFF position for five seconds.
7. Repeat steps 5 and 6 above two more times so that a total of three 10 minute ignition cycles have occurred.
8. The vehicle should now start and the SECURITY should not be lit.
9. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
10. Disconnect the battery charger from the vehicle's battery. Refer to Battery.
11. Close the engine compartment hood.
