Oil Pan: Service and Repair
(Figure 1) Oil Pan and Gaskets
(Figure 2) Applying Sealer to Front Cover Seal Retainer
SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED (or equivalents)

BT-6501, Engine support tool.
^
J-24319-1, Puller.
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT
1. Negative battery cable.
2. Top and two left final drive to transmission bolts.
3. Raise car, install jack stands and lower car.
4. Both front tire and wheel assemblies.
5. Relay rod with tool J-36319-1.
6. Drive axles from output shafts.
7. Battery cable bracket.
8. Install engine support tool BT-6501.
9. Right output shaft support.
10. The remaining final drive bolts.
11. Splash baffle and deflector.
12. Final drive upper support bracket bolts.
13. Steering linkage shock absorber at bracket.
14. Position steering relay rod up and towards front of car. Move pitman arm to left.
NOTE: Place a drain pan under the transmission to catch the oil when the final drive is removed. Place a transmission jack under the final drive.
15. Final drive with right output shaft.
16. Starter.
17. Drain oil pan.
18. Oil pan and remove gasket from final drive and oil pan. Remove oil pan seals, clean and dry sealing surfaces.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Apply GM 1050026 sealer or equivalent to both sides of the gasket, refer to figure 1.
2. Apply a 4 mm (3/32") bead of G.E. 1673 RTV sealer to front cover, refer to figure 2.
3. Apply engine oil to seals.
4. Front and rear seals.
