Timing Cover: Service and Repair
On all engines the cover oil seal may be replaced without taking off the timing gear cover. After removing the vibration damper, pry out the old seal
with a screwdriver. Install the new seal with the lip or open end toward inside of cover and drive it into position.
1.
On models equipped with airbag, disable airbag system as described under ``Airbag System Disarming.''
2.
On 1994 Fleetwood (RWD) models, remove water pump as outlined.
3.
On 1994 Fleetwood (RWD) models, remove crankshaft balancer and hub as outlined.
4.
On 1994 Fleetwood (RWD) models, remove distributor as outlined.
5.
On models except 1994 Fleetwood (RWD), disconnect battery ground cable and drain cooling system, then remove vibration damper and water
pump.
6.
On all models, remove oil pan and gasket as outlined.
7.
Remove front cover retaining screws and the front cover.
8.
Reverse procedure to install.
9.
Rearm airbag system as described under ``Airbag System Arming.''
