Vacuum Pump Removal

1.

 Disconnect oil lines and vacuum hose from vacuum pump.

2.

 Remove vacuum pump attaching bolts.

3.

 Remove vacuum pump from rotor shaft, in direction of the shaft, while holding center plate.

4.

 Carefully remove vanes from pump housing, Fig. 17.

Vacuum Pump Inspection

1.

 Measure length of vanes. If vanes do not measure .511-.531 inch (13.0-13.5 mm), they must be replaced.

2.

 Measure inside diameter of housing. If housing does not measure 2.2440-2.2441 inches, replace vacuum pump.

3.

 Apply light pressure to check valve with a screwdriver. If valve does not operate smoothly, it should be replaced.

4.

 Inspect inner face of rear housing cover for oil leakage and the inner face of oil seal for wear or damage. If oil leakage is evident, or the seal is
worn, it should be replaced.

Vacuum pump installation

1.

 Position rotor on center plate housing, with serrated boss on rotor turned up.

2.

 Align holes in center plate and rotor.

3.

 Install vanes in rotor, ensuring chamfered side of vanes are turned outward.

4.

 Install housing, ensuring O-ring does not protrude past slot in center.  Use care to avoid scratching vane surfaces. If holes in center plate and
housing are not properly aligned, adjust by slowly turning the housing.

5.

 Install vacuum pump to alternator and secure with mounting bolts.

6.

 Connect oil lines and vacuum hose to pump.

7.

 Add approximately 5cc of clean engine oil to filler port on pump, then ensure alternator pulley turns freely by hand.
