Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview
System Check
1.
With ambient air temperature above 70°F, open all doors, start car and set A/C mode selector on MAX. Coolant fan should turn on.
2.
With engine coolant below operating temperature, move A/C mode selector to OFF. Coolant fan should turn off in a short period of time.
3.
Run engine at fast idle for several minutes. Coolant fan should come on before the coolant temperature indicator comes on or the coolant
temperature display shows H.
4.
On 1991 VIN D and all 1992 models, turn ignition switch Off. Coolant fan turns off when engine temperature lowers.
Troubleshooting Hints
1.
If Coolant Fan runs with Ignition Switch in "OFF," replace Coolant Fan Relay.
