Skylark L4-138 2.3L SOHC VIN 3 MFI QUAD 4 (1992)
Refer to the tightening procedure and Figure 2 for the 1992-93 2.3L engines with the old bolt design. Refer to the tightening procedure and Figure 3 for
the later 1993 2.3L engines with the new bolt design. Refer to Figure 1 for the bolt torque degree chart.
NEW FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATION AND PROCEDURE:
NOTICE:
The following tightening procedure must be used to assure gasket life. Failure to follow this procedure exactly may result in cylinder head gasket
leakage.
-- PRE-CONDITION THE CYLINDER HEAD GASKET (Steps A and B) --
A.
Install and tighten cylinder head bolts to the N-m (lbs.ft.) specification in SEQUENCE. Refer to Figure 2 for old bolt design and specification and
Figure 3 for new bolt design and specification.
B.
After completing Step A on all ten bolts, in SEQUENCE tighten the cylinder head bolts the additional degrees indicated in Figures 2 or 3 (Figure
2 for old bolt design and Figure 3 for new bolt design) using J 36660. Refer to Figure 1 for bolt torque degree chart.
C.
In SEQUENCE, loosen each bolt one turn and immediately retighten it to the N-m (lbs.ft.) specification (refer to Figure 2 for old bolt design and
specification, and Figure 3 for new bolt design and specification).
D.
After completing Step C on all ten bolts, in SEQUENCE tighten the cylinder head bolts the additional degrees indicated in Figures 2 and 3 (Figure
2 for old bolt design and Figure 3 for new bolt design) using J 36660. Refer to Figure 1 for bolt torque degree chart.
