PING NOISE FROM EXHAUST RESONATOR
(REPLACE INTERMEDIATE PIPE AND MUFFLER ASSEMBLY)

1994 PONTIAC GRAND AM WITH 3.1L V6 ENGINE (VIN M - RPO L82) AND 4T60E AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
CONDITION:
Some vehicles with a production intermediate pipe and muffler assembly (part numbers listed) may exhibit a ping noise during exhaust cool down.
CAUSE:
Contraction of louver tube inside of resonator.
CORRECTION:
If the intermediate pipe and muffler assembly part number (found on the bottom of the muffler) is the same as the production assembly part number
listed below, then replace with the revised intermediate pipe and muffler part number applicable.
If the part number on the muffler assembly is different than the number listed in the chart under the production intermediate pipe and muffler column,
examine the converter or down pipe for the cause of the ping noise.
